Fate & Lies

Source: Pinterest | Movie: Casablanca | Year: 1942

there’s something about fate
that lends itself to questions of faith
a belief that even the stars get lonely
a balance too delicate to compel a little death that
teeters between the very strings of the universe.

there’s something about lies
that lends itself to waves of wanting
where one, is never enough & more, easy to follow
pulling up like tides in a water that’s too shallow
with the truth buried in sand – a wilting, caged corpse.

there’s something about fate
that doesn’t distinguish trick from treat
that renders all search for meaning, useless
that points to the sky, declares it a woman
one who hides in the bosoms of her own decree.

there’s something about lies
that is endless, infinite, quantifying
that thinks on its feet without running out of cheats
as every single truth can lead to a web of nasty lies
but for one damned lie there exists no single truth.
